Memorial for Francis Twichell, Jr, son of Captain Francis and Sally (Fish) Twichell of Athol, and his wife, Aramintha Barnard, from Wilmington, Vermont. Their adopted daughter, Hattie Twichell, who was also Francis' niece, is buried with them. Hattie became one of the first trained kindergarten teachers. She helped establish and became the principal of a kindergarten teachers institute in Springfield. The Twichell family owned many taverns in the area, including taverns owned by Francis in Petersham and Templeton. His brother, Ginery Twichell, owned the stage line and was also president of the Boston and Maine railroads, and later the Topeka and Santa Fe railroads.
