Dana George Askren, 61 of Windfall and formerly of Kokomo, Tipton and Mt. Vernon, Kentucky died early Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at his residence. He was born August 27, 1950 in Elwood to George M. & Margaret (Ogden) Askren. He married Judith Faye Bradshaw in 1975.

Dana had retired from the Indiana National Guard and later worked at Steel Parts in Tipton. He was a member of the Tipton American Legion and assisted at the Howard County Vietnam Veterans Reunion for several years. He was a member of the Kentucky Colonels and graduated from Rockcastle County High School in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky in 1970.

He served in the U.S. Army for two years and then in the Indiana National Guard for 21 years with "B" Battery, 139th Field Artillery at Kempton, retiring as a Buck Sergeant.

Dana is survived by one daughter, Miranda "Mindy" Askren, Kokomo; one brother, Richard A. Askren, Sr., Arab, Alabama; one sister, Donna L. Whitted, Cicero; two grandchildren, Audree and Austin Zorich; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and his loving dog, Hank. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Paul Douglas Askren.

His funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 11 at Young-Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Tipton with military honors. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
