DR. T.H. LANE DEAD

Father of Miss Emma Lane Passes Away After a Brief Illness

Dr. T. H. Lane died at his home, 818 Constitution street at 11 o’clock Monday night of paralysis of the throat. He had been in declining health for the past two or three years, but his last illness was of but a few days duration. Death, however, came not unexpectedly.

T. H. Lane was born in Boone county, Ind., in 1833 and would have been 62 years of age on the 26th of May next. He studied medicine and graduated from the Cincinnati Medical college in 1866. He was for twenty-five years engaged in the active practice of his profession in his native state, ten years having been spent at Northfield and fifteen years at Lebanon. Five years ago he removed to Lincoln, Neb., continuing in practice during a residence there for three years. His health then began to fail and he removed to this city to make his home with his daughter, Miss Emma E. Lane, who has for the past two years been official stenographer for the district court.

He had been for twenty-five years a faithful and consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church, and his life both private and professional was above reproach. He was at all times a kindly, courteous gentleman and no one knew him but to esteem him for is manly worth and his high Christian character.

Beside the wife and faithful companion for many years he leaves two daughters, Miss Emma and Mrs. W.B. Coley, of Dallas, Tex., who with her husband was with him at the time of his death.

All the members of the family, with J. M. Lane, a relative, of Burlington, surrounded the death bed and the end came quietly and peacefully. The funeral took place from the residence at 4 o’clock this afternoon, Rev. H. J. Coker conducting the services. Members of the Masonic order, of which the Doctor had long been a member, attended in a body.

The remains were taken to Zionsville, Ind., leaving over the M.K.&T. at 8:45 Wednesday morning, to be buried in the old family plat beside his father and mother and brother. Three brothers and two sisters survive him – one brother at Lincoln, Neb., and the others at the old home.

In the death of Doctor Lane the community loses a good citizen and the medical profession one of its most skillful members, the children an indulgent father and the wife a devoted husband. To the sorrowing family and relatives the profound sympathy of all our people is extended.
