US Congressman. He became court page in the common pleas court of Montgomery County, Ohio, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1904 and commenced to practice law in Dayton, Ohio. He was assistant county prosecutor of Montgomery County, taught law at the University of Dayton, probate judge, and an assistant United States District Attorney. In addition, he was a delegate to the Republican National Conventions, and served as a Captain in the United States Army Officers’ Reserve Corps. In 1939, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth Congress, serving until 1941. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law and served as Solicitor for the Department of Labor Washington, D.C., from 1953, until his death from a heart attack.
