Louisa's father was Charles Henry Lander, born about 1818 in Salem MA to Edward and Eliza Lander. It is not known when, or how, he came to use the West surname. Charles died in 1880 in San Francisco CA.
Louisa's mother was Marguerita (nee Rode) West, born about 1831 in Lorraine, France. She emigrated to the United States in 1844. Marguerite died 1 Feb 1923 in Melo Park CA.
Louisa had five siblings, all of whom were born in California:
* Charles West (1854-1941)
* Eliza West (1859-1913), husband [wife] of James Brazell
* Marguerita West (1862)
* Sarah West (1866)
* Anna West (1869-1966), wife of Hugh McDonnell
