EMPORIA- Rose Marie Rosie Bennett, 69, of Emporia, KS passed away April 25, 2009 at her home. She was born on November 17, 1939, the daughter of Horace Fuzz and Anna Mary (Coffman) Culver. They preceded her in death. Rosie was raised in Lueders, TX, south of Abilene, TX, graduating from Lueders High in 1958. She graduated from North Texas State, now the University of North Texas in 1961 with a Bachelors Degree in Education. She married Richard Lewis Bennett at Madison, KS on June 11, 1961. He survives. Other survivors include: sons, Brenton Lewis Bennett of Emporia, and Brandon Wayne Bennett of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Margann Marie Bennett White of Lawrence; brothers, Robert Culver of Centerville and Bill Culver of Perry; 2 grandsons, and 6 granddaughters. Rosie served as an elementary school teacher in Kansas City, Kansas District for 3 years before she married. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Reach to Recovery for 14 years, Newmans Hospital Auxiliary, Emporia Recreation Commission for 10 years, United Methodist Women, and PEO Chapter DI. She was an avid golfer, becoming a Kansas Womens Golf Assn. member and won KWGA 9 hole tournament two times- state champion, and also won City and Emporia County Club Championships numerous times. She was also a former member of Fortune Study Club. A memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at First United Methodist Church, Emporia, KS. There will be inurnment at Blakely Cemetery Madison, KS. Visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 28 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. Memorial contributions may be sent to or ESU Lady Hornet Basketball Program in care of the funeral home.
