John was elected 2nd Junior Lieutenant from 2nd Sergeant on 26 Jul 1864. We next find John "Absent Sick" with a 30 day furlough since 24 Oct 1864. He then is reported as absent without leave since 24 Nov 1864. The last report we have is that he was admitted to the CSA General Hospital, No 11, at Charlotte, North Carolina, on 20 Apr 1865, and returned to duty on 21 Apr 1865.
