Daughter of James Madison Sheridan and Affia Haseltine Stone.

Sister of Cornelia Rachel, Elizabeth Della, and Martha "Mattie" Frances Sheridan.

Mary's Father, James M. Sheridan was killed in the Battle of Bristoe Station, VA on Oct 14, 1863. Her Mother, Affia Haseltine Stone died the following year in 1864. Mary was only 8 years old when her Mother died leaving all four children orphaned. After Affia died, her four daughters were split up among relatives and never lived together again.

Mary went to live with her Uncle Nicholas S. Stone (Affia's brother) who was married to Jane Glass. Nicholas and Jane raised Mary along with their own children. They lived in Chatham County, NC.

Mary married Isaac Phillips on Sept 26th 1875 in Chatham County NC and lived there until their deaths. Her husband Isaac died on December 31, 1890 just 9 days after their daughter Bettie was born. Mary never re-married.

They had 6 children. In order of birth, they are:
1) Endora "Dora", b.Aug 25, 1876, d.Mar 7, 1953 in Chatham County, NC.
2) James Edward "Ed", b.1879, d. abt 1943
3) Della Annie, b.Apr 14, 1881, d.Jul 11, 1932 in Moore County, NC.
4) Joseph Madison, b.Jan 8, 1884, d.Jul 12, 1937 in Chatham County, NC.
5) June Robert "Junie", b.Jun 8, 1888, d.Feb 3, 1966 in Chatham County, NC.
6) Bettie, b.Dec 22, 1890, d.Aug 26, 1856 in Chatham County, NC.
