Mary Jeanne TeNgaio, 69, passed away from cancer Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at Promontory Point Rehabilitation Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

She was born August 6, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Pat and Ruby Whittington. She spent her childhood in Nephi, Utah, and Las Vegas, Nevada. The family bought a motel in West Yellowstone, Montana, in 1952, and spent every summer there from 1952 through 1959. In August 1959, she and her family moved to Idaho Falls, where she attended Idaho Falls High School for her senior year. In the fall of 1960, she and her sister Patricia attended the Church College of Hawaii (BYU-Hawaii), where she graduated summa cum laude in 1967.

On June 21, 1962, she married Tyrone K. TeNgaio. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Hawaii Temple. She lived on Oahu, Hawaii, for 27 years. Then, in 1987, she and her family moved to Idaho Falls, where she worked for Bonneville Land & Title Company. For a number of years she was a volunteer with the Dare program in Idaho Falls, working as a secretary/treasurer.

Mary was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings, mostly with the Young Women and Relief Society. Many of her talents and wisdom were a direct result of her service and experiences in Relief Society.

She had a passion for life. Mary always had a "project" going and was never one to watch life idle by. When she wasn't remodeling a kitchen or designing a garden, her love for learning was spent in literature and art. Mary also had a deep passion for her family – and she made sure each one of them knew how much they meant to her, including her grandchildren.

She leaves behind her husband of nearly 50 years, Ty; daughters, Tanya and Laura; sons, Matt (Brittany) and Jake; grandchildren, Austin, Kai, Kenzi, Autumn, Ethan and Madeline; and siblings, Patricia Huston, Barbara Stommel, Karl Whittington, Kent Whittington and Brien Whittington.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her younger sister, Linda; and her oldest child, Kenneth.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the Idaho Falls LDS 31st Ward, 1165 Azalea Drive, Idaho Falls, with Bishop Dennis Wahlquist officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Ammon Cemetery.
