Bock was brought to the US at age five and returned to Europe for study at the Berlin Academy and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. He received commissions for Civil War monuments such as the Illinois State Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument at Shiloh. He lived in the Chicago suburb of River Forest, Illinois.
