Champion Race Horse. Born March 31, 1973, in Lexington, Kentucky, he was sold as a yearling to Estaban Tizol for $15,200 and shipped to El Commandante racetrack in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In his first start, he went off at odds of 35-1, won by 17 lengths, won his next four starts and at the Gr. III Classico Dia Los Padres set a new track record. Sent back to the United States in 1975, he won the Tremont Stakes by 5 lengths. He went on to wins at the Garden Stake Stakes, Wood Memorial, Bay Shore, finished 2nd at San Miguel and 3rd at San Vicinte. In 1976, he won the Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes and was named 3-Year-Old Male Champion. During the Vosburgh Handicap in October 1976, he was severely injured but still finished 3rd. Considered to be a valuable stallion prospect and rather than risk further injury, he was retired. Bold Forbes sired 430 foals, with 304 winners, 30 stakes winners and progeny earnings of over $18 million.
