Thomas arrived in New York aboard the SS Celtic on July 9, 1921, travelling on to Idaho and eventually to California.

In 1936, while living in Los Angeles, he became a US citizen.

Thomas served in both WWI, while living in England, and enlisted in 1942 at the age of 44 for WWII in the US. He settled in Huntington Park, where he was a brick mason and tile setter.
