Favor Results in Man's Death

National City Visitor
Victim of Mishap

SAN DIEGO, March 7 - Because a stranger sought to do him a favor, Percy Purviance, 71, Richmond chiropractor, was dead here today, victim of an automobile accident.

En route to Tijuana, Purviance stopped in National City for information. He parked his machine, and made his query in the auto sales agency of E. G. Tarr. At first Tarr was unable to answer his question, and Purviance left.

While crossing the street, the chiropractor was hailed by Tarr, who meanwhile had, from one of his employees, obtained the requested information.

Purviance halted, turned around to go back, and was struck by an auto assertedly driven by Cosby Gibson, 44, of 123 W. 52nd St., Los Angeles, according to Deputy Coroner A. E. Gallagher. This afternoon, 24 hours after the mishap, Purviance died in the County Hospital.
