Vivian Louise McClellan was the daughter of Ruby Meriwether and her first husband, Max McClellan. As Louisa Mcclellan in the 1900 Census, she is living with her grandmother, Rebecca Reeder Meriwether, where she is listed as "granddaughter by adoption".

After her mother's 1903 marriage to Tomotsune Mizutany, a Japanese tea merchant, she is shown as Louise Meriwether Mizutany on two trips returning from Japan (1904, 1908) and in the 1910 Census.

On 2 Jan 1915, as Louise V. McClellan, she married John P. Barnard. They had a son, originally named John Philip Barnard (Jr.?) born in October of 1915.

The trail of Vivian becomes murky at this point. In the 1920 Census she appears to be the Vivian L. Walker married to Ralph H. Walker; they are still together in the 1930 Census when John P. Barnard is listed as Ralph's stepson, which proves that this is Vivian McClellan. No further trace of Ralph Walker has been found after 1930, although a Ralph H. Walker married Alice P. Wendell on 11 Feb 1931 in Los Angeles County.

The next confirmed reference to Vivian is an entry in the California Death Index as Vivian Louise Van Dyke: died in 1959, father's name McClellan, mother's maiden name Merriweather. Other genealogies claim she married Richard Early Van Dyke, though marriage records show he married Louise Violet Price and that he and his wife Louise were living in Sacramento in the 1930 Census, at the same time Louise (McClellan) and Ralph were living in LA.

Vivian is buried at Forest Lawn as Vivian Louise McClellan Van Dyke. Her mother is also buried at the same cemetery, though not the same plot. The California Death Index and cemetery burial records incorrectly and mysteriously list Vivian's birth year as 1905, but the day and month are correct.

Her burial plot is the Utility Columbarium, a storage room for cremains that were never claimed by family, and is not open to the public.
