Medical Figure. He was the personal physician to President Warren G. Harding and his wife, Florence (Kling) Harding. Born near the village of Wyandot, Ohio, he was a graduate of the Cleveland Medical College (1881) as a Doctor of Homeopathy. He eventually owned and operated Sawyer Sanatorium in downtown Marion, Ohio and a similar facility in Columbus, Ohio in the Toney Goodale Park section of the city. His facilities catered to the affluent and operated its own train station as well as a private railroad siding to house train cars owned by his patients. After the death of President Harding, his widow Florence Kling Harding retired to Sawyer's White Oaks Farm facility (occupying Rose Cottage) , where she died in 1924. Mrs. Sawyer died in 1945 and buried at her husband's side.
