Civil War Union Army Officer. He served during the Civil War as a Captain and Commander of Battery D, Illinois Light Artillery. The unit was also known as McAllister's Battery and the Plainfield Light Artillery and distinguished themselves at the Battles of Fort Donelson and Shiloh. Captain McAllister enlisted on April 15, 1861, and resigned due to dysentery in April 1862.
