Ransom served two terms in the Kansas House of Representatives, from 1905 to 1909. He also founded the town of Ransomville, Kansas which is 14 miles from Ottawa. He moved to Kansas in 1868. His Victorian home was built in 1889 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It's located at 318 Locust street, Ottawa, Kansas.
