Edna Mildred Pitchford was born in December 1892 in Spring Garden, Missouri (Miller County), daughter of William Tribune Pitchford (1855-1913) and Mary Lucetta Clay (1865-1956).

The 1920 Federal Census for Chickasha, Oklahoma (Grady County) shows Edna Frederick, a ladies ready-to-wear saleslady, age 27, and her first husband, James A. Frederick, a mattress maker, age 27, born in Texas. Edna's widowed mother, Lucetta, a seamstress in a mattress factory, age 57, born in Missouri, was living with them.

The 1930 Federal Census for Chickasha, Oklahoma (Grady County) shows Edna Balliet, a ready-to-wear manager, age 37, born in Missouri; and her husband, Fred J. Balliet, a traveling salesman, age 41, born in Texas. The census shows they had been married for one year. It further shows that Fred was a first-generation American as both his parents were born in Germany.

Edna and her husband, Fred, founded Balliet's Inc. in 1936 in the Skirvin Hotel in downtown Oklahoma City. Balliet's sold in 1973 and it moved to 50 Penn Place under new ownership. It sold again in 1991 and in 2010, Balliet's moved to the Classen Curve Shopping Center. Balliet's consistently offered upscale clothing and specialty items to the Oklahoma community and in September 2011, celebrated its 75th anniversary.

Graveside services will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Saturday at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
