Glenda M. Spainhower, age 84 of Monroe, died 2:22 p.m. Sunday at Mercy Memorial Nursing Center.

Born October 16, 1927 in Balkan, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Sherman and Martha (Barnard) Rush. She married Norris R. Spainhower August 20, 1949 in Toledo, Ohio.

Glenda and Norris co-owned and operated Spainhower Auction Company in Monroe from 1968 to 2003.

Glenda was extremely proud of her family. She spoke often and always well of them to all who would listen. She enjoyed meeting and making new friends. Outgoing and cheerful, no one remained a stranger for long. Her pleasant disposition made everyone comfortable. Glenda brightened the lives of all who knew her, and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband Norris; two daughters, Lisa (Thomas Gregg) Spainhower of Highland, New York and Rowena (Michael) Pelczynski of Hayward, California; a sister Willene Chalmers of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandson Staff Sergeant Lukas Blair and great-grandson Rush Nathaniel Blair, both of Augusta, Georgia; two nieces, Jessica Wood of Boone, North Carolina and Susan Ewing of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Neal and Doyle Rush; and a sister, Fern Wood.

Cremation has taken place in accordance with her wishes. The family will receive visitors at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rupp Funeral Home where a memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. Kate O'Brien, Chaplain at Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe will officiate. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.

The family greatly thanks Mercy Memorial Nursing Center and Mercy Memorial Hospice for the loving care they provided.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or Mercy Memorial Hospice of Monroe.
