U.S. Congressman. After two years of college training, he was a teacher in Steele High School, (1917-19), an automotive faculty service manager and the manager of athletics at Roosevelt High School Dayton, Ohio, (1923-29). He served as City of Dayton director of recreation, (1929-35) and owned a real estate, mortgage loan and insurance business in Dayton, Ohio. In addition he was president of the board of education, (1941-50), vice chairman of the Dayton Safety Council, (1946-47) and president of the Dayton Real Estate Board, (1947-49). In 1951, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-second Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Edward F. Breen, reelected to the Eighty-third Congress and to the next five succeeding Congresses, serving until 1965. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his previous business venues until his death at age 69.
