Second of 11 children born to J. A. Quitman Palmer and Elizabeth Belle Barr.

Maternal grandparents: Allen E. Barr b. August 28, 1811 and Jane Palace Campbell b. May 3, 1820.

Paternal grandparents: John Houston Palmer b. March 28, 1816 and Eliza Jane Terry b. December 22, 1821.

Married Jennie Freeman. The couple's first child, Tommie, died at 15 months of age of injuries received when a tornado hit Mobeetie, Wheeler County, Texas in May 1898. They had at least two more children, Jimmie (female) b. 1899 and Clay (male) b. 1908 (photo posted here).

US Census reports list his residences as Hemphill County, Texas in 1900, Wheeler County, Texas in 1910, and San Rafael, New Mexico in 1920.
