Elizabeth was born in Wick, Caithness, Scotland to Magnus Miller (1791-1872), and Jane Cumming (1791- ) Her siblings include Marjory Miller Gemmell (1817-1902) and William (1822- ) She married Robert Campbell on January 25, 1850 at St. Cuthbert's, Edinbough, Scotland. Almost 9 months to the day, their daughter, Jane, was born. Elizabeth and Jane made the long journey from Glasgow to New York on the ship, The Robena to be with Robert. The passenger list states, "Going to husband". They arrived in their new homeland on September 25, 1851. The Campbell Family made their home in Newtown, New York, where they had the rest of their children, Robert (1853- ), William (1855- ) Colin (1857- ), Elizabeth (1859-1907), and Henry Leverich (1861- ).

It's unknown if Elizabeth ever saw her family back in Scotland again. Marjory married Peter Gemmell, had nine children and stayed in Scotland. William's fate is a mystery for now. Her father, Magnus, died a 'pauper' in South Leith Poorhouse, in 1872 at the age of 81. His death record states he was married and former occupation being 'labourer'. The 1841 and 1851 Scotland Census states his residence as 15 St Anthony St. and 'Brewer's Servant' as his occupation.

NOTE: Elizabeth and her husband, Robert, were previously buried in the First Presbyterian Church of Newtown Cemetery. Their remains wer moved to Mount Olivet Cemetery on 4 June 1958.
