Morning Call, The (Allentown, PA) - Thursday, August 18, 2011

William Rodney Ziegler, 68, of Lansford, formerly of Walnutport and Lehighton, died August 15 in Hometown Nursing Home from complications of Alzheimers disease.

He was born and lived his early years in Allentown, where he played football for and graduated from William Allen High School. He proudly served a 20-year career in the US Army from 1961-1981, during which he served four years in the Vietnam Conflict.

After retiring from the military, he worked for the former Com Com Publishers, Allentown, from 1983-2003. He was affectionately known by his family as The Rock, Ronnie and Paw Paw. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, always trying to help his family whenever possible. He bowled frequently at Rose Bowl Lanes, Allentown, supported his local police departments, and loved animals, raising two dogs to ages 17 and 15.

His final journey was eased by the kind and professional care of the Village at Palmerton, Hometown Nursing Home, and Compassionate Care Hospice.

Survivors: Daughters Tammy and husband Harold Butch Anthony Jr. of Lansford, Cherie and companion Sean Mulligan of Laurys Station; grandchildren Meghan, Andrew, Damon; niece Rosemarie, nephews John and Delmar; step-grandchildren Tanya, Harold, Brian; beloved dog Lacey.

He was predeceased by his parents Gladys (Ziegler) Ward and Albert Ward; sister Patricia Harmon; cherished dogs Tasha and Mandy.

Services: 5 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, T.K. Thomas Funeral Home, 145 Delaware Ave, Palmerton. Call 4-5 p.m. Tuesday.
