Scottish Sovereign. His name of Celtic origin was Idulb Mac Causantín, known in England and Ireland as Indulf and was a descendant of the ancient Mc Alpin lineage. He, son of King Áed Mac Cináeda who had reigned over those territories in the short period 877-878, ascended the throne of Scotland after the death of Malcolm I (954). According to the chronicles of Alba and the writings of some historians, the unpredictable circumstances that allowed him to reign over Scotland suggest that Indulf was already lord of the county of Alt Clut and that only after this was assimilated to the kingdom of Alba with capital Edinburgh. Several legends linger about his death. The most probable tells that he died in combat against the invasion attempts of the Vikings.
