Cyril Doulton was the youngest of four sons of Josiah Doulton and Emmeline Ritchie Doulton. In 1897 he married his first cousin, Sophie Buckland. From a clipping in the scrapbook of his sister, Ethel Doulton Stott:

Death of Cyril Doulton
Cyril Doulton died Sunday [January 19, 1902], at Miramar, Montecito, after a brief illness. His death was a shock to his friends in Santa Barbara, as it had not been generally known that he had been ill. Only a few days ago he was apparently in the best of health. About ten days ago he was attacked with a severe disorder of the stomach and, from the first, he began to sink rapidly until the end came.

Cyril Doulton was one of the best known and most universally admired young men in this county. He was 31 years of age and, since coming to this country from England, when 4 years old, he had resided almost continuously in Santa Barbara.

Four years ago Mr. Doulton married Miss [Sophie] Buckland, who is also a native of England. The wife and an infant son, Kenneth, survive him. The parents, two brothers, Harold and Leslie, and a sister, Mrs. Louis [N.] Stott, also survive him. The sister resides in New York, but was at her brother's bedside when death came.

For the past four years Mr. Doulton had been extensively interested in the cattle-raising business in this section. For a while he conducted a large ranch near Ventura [The "Casitas Ranch," now beneath Lake Casitas, pictured at right], but about a year ago he secured property at Piru, Ventura county, to which point he moved his cattle.

The funeral was held Monday from the Episcopal church [All Saints by the Sea], at Montecito.
