Leon Ulmer, 87, went home to be with his loving Savior on Thursday, March 1, 2012, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness.

Born in Anthony Township, he was a son of Watson and Mary (Getz) Ulmer.

Leon was a dairy farmer who, together with his brother Carl, owned and operated the former Garden View Dairy Farm. He was a member of the Lycoming County Farm Bureau.

One of Leon's greatest joys was being with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time in the woods, cutting wood and hunting. He liked going to farm machinery and cow sales, and attending wrestling matches.

He will always be remembered for his willingness to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors.

Mr. Ulmer was a charter member of High Rock Hunting Club. He was a member and a former trustee, deacon, and treasurer of Anthony Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Young Ulmer, and five of his six siblings: Paul, Kathryn, Glenn, Dale, and Carl.

He was survived by four children: Philip (Lois) Ulmer of Linden; Carol Ann (Donald) Metzler of Allenwood; Debra (David) Bixler of Loyalsock; and Seth (Arlene) Ulmer of Linden. In addition he was survived by his sister, Clara Hauser of Towanda, as well as 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ulmer was a committed Christian.

He was bound to the land from the day of his birth
His roots anchored deep in the fertile earth
Nurtured, sustained, by the soil he grew
And his life, like his furrows, was straight and true.

In faith, each spring, he planted the seeds
In hope, to reap his family needs
With patience, he waited for the harvest to come
To gather the fruits of his labor home.

Ever turning seasons, the years sped past
Til the final harvest came at last
Then claimed anew by beloved sod
He was gathered home to be with God.
