Inventor. Telephone answering machine in 1948; security device that automatically dials a phone number and conveys information from in case of an emergency; magnetic recorder used to monitor heart patients; system for accessing prerecorded lectures to earn college credit; airport system to send out landing information to planes 24 hours a day. Early examples on display at the Milwaukee Public Museum.1935 graduate of Marquette University with a degree in electrical engineering. Served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during WW II. Among the first soldiers to land on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, as part of the D-Day invasion. (bio by: Millennium Memorials)
