Louise Coffey was born Beryl Louise Thompson in 1921 in Cherryvale, Kansas. She was named after both parents, Louis and Beryl. The family soon moved to Los Angeles, Ca. Tragically her mother contracted smallpox in 1925 and passed away on her 26th birthday. After that, Louise lived with her mother's parents, seeing her dad on weekends. Life at grandma's was filled with happy times at the Jessup dairy with peacocks, and lots to get into. When the depression struck, her dad moved them back to Kansas. Sometime later her father died and she went to live with his parents. While attending Jr. college in Independence, Kansas fate smiled on a young man named Howard. The relationship was interrupted due to the death of her grandpa as Louise returned to Calif. at the request of her grandmother. After a year or so, Howard persuaded Louise to return to Kansas. They were married on March 8, 1942. Louise arrived in heaven just in time to celebrate their 70th anniversary.
After the trials of WWII, Louise and Howard returned to Calif. settling in San Diego in 1949.
Louise entered the surging post-war fashion industry as a model and Howard went back to college to study Mortuary Science. When Becky (Douthit) was born in 1953 they were overjoyed. In 1955 they moved to Whittier where Howard had been recruited to help establish Rose Hills Mortuary. Lisa (Marin) was born the following year, completing the Coffey family. Louise and Howard loved Whittier and became very active in the community. Louise spent many years working with Girl Scouts, Family Service, and PTA while the girls were in school. Louise entered Real Estate in 1973 opening a new chapter and many more friendships. She loved it so much she didn't retire until she was 84!
