Civil War Union Army Officer. He served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 29th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry, being commissioned on September 12, 1862. He held command of the unit during the December 1862 Fredericksburg Campaign, then resigned on January 16, 1863. For many years he was the editor of the "Monmouth Inquirer", and he later commanded GAR Post 63.
