"I have known his wonderful work through the Daughters of Saint Paul and through his books. I, too, want to be a priest of the Pious Society of Saint Paul. I'm already 19 years old.". Thus Salvatore, on May 31, 1937, wrote to the Primo Maestro from Alessandria of Egypt to ask to be admitted in the Pauline Congregation.

Born in Alexandria, Egypt, on July 4, 1918, of emigrant Italian parents, he had attended the primary and secondary schools with good results with the Brothers of Christian Schools of the city and then worked in the sector of commerce and as an employee. "Assiduous in the liturgical functions and in the holy sacraments", testified the parish priest of Santa Catherine's Parish, "he is also a catechist and a Franciscan Tertiary". He arrived in the Formation House of Rome on July 20, 1937: "This morning your young son has arrived", wrote to his mother Adele the Superior of the Community, "and here he stays very willingly and we love him much".

His first Pauline formation started in this manner. He made his novitiate in Alba between 1939 and 1940, making his religious profession on September 8, 1940. The years of his lyceum and theological studies sorted out between Alba and Rome. Here he took his solemn vows on September 8, 1944, and was ordained to the priesthood in Alba on August 3, 1947, by the local bishop, Monsignor Luigi Maria Grassi.

His first apostolic task after priestly ordination was with "San Paolo Film" (then called Romana Editrice Film), for the duration of one year. In fact, starting the following year Fr. Salvatore began serving as Rector of the Queen of Apostles Sanctuary, a duty that he carried until the 1970's, which introduced him to parish pastorality, his main ministry in the fruitful period of his priestly life.

The Pauline parish of Gesù Buon Pastore in Montagnola was the training ground of his self-giving to the people who had him as their parish priest from 1974 to 1980. Here Fr. Salvatore revealed his pastoral sensibility and his deep love for the liturgy.

In the meantime, for several years, he was a teacher of religion in state schools and of the French and English Languages in the Roman Seminary. After leaving the Buon Pastore parish, from 1983, he dedicated himself to pastoral service in the Basilica of Saint Paul outside the Walls, mainly through the sacrament of reconciliation, as long as his health allowed him. His final confinement was to the Infirmary Casa San Paolo of Rome, where he passed away on Tuesday, December 2, 2008, at 1.45 pm., aged 90.

His funeral Mass was held on Thursday, December 4, at 10 am., in the Sanctuary of the Queen of the Apostles. His remains were successively transported to Albano Laziale and interred in the Chapel of the Pauline Family in the Urban Cemetery.
