Excerpt – Died Sunday evening, Oct. 9, after a two days illness of paralysis, John A. Lantz, proprietor of the Mountian View Hotel at Aurora. Mr. Lantz in his usual health had driven to Crellin, Md. A few miles from his home to get a load of coal and while there suffered the stroke which was a severe one. He was removed to the home of Alex Lantz nearby and Dr. Broadwater hastily summoned, and his family notified of his serious condition. As soon as possible his daughters, Miss. Nora, Mrs. H. S. Whetsell, Mrs. Claude Maxwell and his son, Scott, were at his side where they remained until the end.
The body was removed to the Bolden Undertaking parlors of Oakland and there prepared for burial,, after which it was taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. S. Whetsell in Kingwood where the funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. by the Rev. M. L. Peter, pastor of the Lutheran Church of Aurora. Interment was in the Maplewood Cemetery beside his wife and their son, Earl M.
The deceased was the son of Henry Lantz, born at the old homestead now known as the D. A. Dixon farm near Amboy, Sept. 25, 1848 and was therefore aged 78 years and 14 days. He married Olive Virginia Shaffer, daughter of James H. Shaffer, who preceded him to the world beyond Dec. 6, 1919. Mr. Lantz is survived by five daughters, Miss. Nora at home, Mrs. H. S. Whetsell of Kingwood, Mrs. Oscar C. Wilt and Mrs. Claude Maxwell of Clarksburg, Miss. Gladys of Long Beach, Calf., and two sons, Clarence C. of Ashville, N.C., and J. Scott of Reedsville. One sister, Mrs. Hattie Porter of Terra Alta, and six brothers, Lloyd L. of Fredericksburg, Va., Dr. J. Oliver of Hartmansville, W.Va., William and L. C. of Morgantown, Lewis of Bloomdale, Oh., and Frank of Temple, Okla.
