Sarah Catlett was born in Old Rappahannock County, VA.

Marriage of Sarah Catlett and Robert Taliaferro, II is proved by Deed, 1687, and Court Record, 25 March, 1692, Essex Co., VA. Wm. & Mary Quarterly, Vol. 20, p. 266 et seq..."Robert Taliaferro Junior and Francis Taliaferro, with their wives, Sarah and Elizabeth, sold 300 acres of land in Essex County in 1687 which was part of the land bequeathed to the said Sarah and Elizabeth by their father, John Catlett..." In 1688 both Francis and John Taliaferro gave bond for Mrs. Sarah Taliaferro, widow of their brother Robert.

Sarah (Catlett) Taliaferro and Robert Taliaferro, II were married in 1682, and had one son, Robert Taliaferro, III, who married first Margaret French, before 7-Aug-1711, and second Ann Pittman about 1724.

After the death of Robert Taliaferro, Sarah married Samuel Sallis. Later she married Samuel Short.

Ruth & Sam Sparacio, "Order Book Abstracts of Essex County, Virginia, 1716-1723 (Part II), (McLean, Virginia: R. & S. Sparacio, 1990), page 94, citing p.359 of 1716-1723 order book.

18 August 1719 In the action of Debt brought by Patrick Gilbreath of Glasgow, Mercht. vs. Saml. Short and Sarah his wife, late Sarah Armstrong, Admx. &c. of John Armstrong, late of Richmond County, deced., the Deft. prays an imparlance to next Court & it is granted him.

Comment: Samuel Short was the third husband of Sarah Catlett. She died before 1719 by which time Samuel had married Sarah, the widow of John Armstrong who wrote his will in 1718 in Richmond County.

Researchers had confused Samuel Short's first wife Sarah Catlett Taliaferro-Sallis with his second wife Sarah, the widow of John Armstrong. Samuel Short's second wife Sarah was deceased by 1724 when his wife was Frances.
