Jo Anna Riegle was born to Senator R. Wilford Riegle & Keith Maria Roberts on 22 September, 1930. She was an inheritor of great artistic ability; this was exemplified through her participation in the prestigious Interlochen Music Festival during the summer of '46, her mastery and teaching of both violin and piano, her love of dance, and her four decades in academia.

Following in the footsteps of her family, she attended the Kansas State Teachers College. In '52, upon the conclusion of her undergraduate career, she married Mr. George Joseph Scherrer at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emporia, Kansas. Thereafter, her relocation to New York proved to be the first divide of the Riegle Family (with the second being a move by her brother, Roy, to California a decade thereafter).

After raising her children during their formative years, Jo Anna returned to her career in a post provided at the Bethpage Union Free School District in 1968. During such time, she worked to obtain her M.Ed. This was accomplished in 1971 from both the Kansas State Teachers College & C.W. Post College in Brookville, New York.

She is memorialized within F.A. Beach Music Hall on the campus of Emporia State University, forever serving as a testament to the countless hours that she spent honing her craft within its historic walls.
