Edward Deering was born in October of 1852 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Edward was the seventh of 10 children born to James and Eliza Deering, who immigrated from Tyrone, Ireland in 1839 to Lowell, Massachusetts. They were a family of merchants and seemed to move with the business, landing in Ohio, New York and Indiana until they settled in Detroit, Michigan in 1859. By 1889 the family had moved again to San Francisco, California. Edward was a sign Painter by trade. Edward married Margaret Frances Bole in 1892 (citing historical records, she went by the name Frances). Edward died in San Francisco, 7 March 1936, leaving only one brother living at the time, Fred C. Deering, who died in 1942.
