When Irene Gertrude "Gert" Beckman was born on October 4, 1906, in San Francisco, California, her father, Henry, was 32, and her mother, Anna, was 25. Gert adored her four siblings, Edward Howard born 1902, Ethel Josephine Beckman Pelissier, born 1911, George Howard Beckman born 1913 and her foster sister, Ruth De Lasaux (born Devras in 1921), who joined the Beckman family before she was 8 years old. Gert was proudly the Maid of Honor for both her dear sisters' weddings. She married Fortunato (Frank) DeRisi on September 4, 1926, in her hometown. She was a loving and devoted wife and a beloved Aunt Gert to her niece, Sandra (Pelissier) Kravchenko and her children, Jeffrey, Julie and Jacklyn Kravchenko, who Gert lived with after she was widowed in 1970. Gert also adored her nieces, Marcia Beckman, Judy (Beckman) Muilenberg, Kathy De Lasaux, her nephews, Thomas and Michael De Lasaux and her seven great-nieces & nephews. Gert had a highly contagious laugh and always pampered her lucky Chihuahua, she called Baby. She died on January 14, 1993, in San Mateo County, California, at the age of 86, and was buried in Colma, California at the Cypress Lawn Memorial Park alongside her husband and parents.
