San Francisco Woman Is Killed Near Cotati
"Mrs. Mavis Smith, 38, of 152 Serrano Drive, San Francisco, was killed MOnday night as her automobile swerved out of control at Rohnert Park.
Her daughter, Sharon, 6, escaped serious injuries.
Both were thrown from the car.
The accident occurred as Mrs. Smith, northbound on the U.S. 101 freeway, lost control south of the Wilford overpass.
The California Highway Patrol said that the small French car, traveling at a moderate speed, careened across the northbound lane, upset and rolled over, pinning Mrs. Smith underneath.
The accident happened at 4:10 p.m. and Mrs. Smith was pronounced dead at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital at 6:30 p.m. Her daughter was also hospitalized.
Officers said today that Mrs. Smith was manager of a tavern in the Sir Francis Drake Hotel (San Francisco) and that she may have been the daughter-in-law of the hotel manager.
She is believed to be a member of a prominent San Francisco family and her remains will probably be taken there for services."

According to her death notice in the San Francisco Examiner, Thursday, 5 Feb 1959, Mrs. Smith accidently drowned near Santa Rosa. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Black of Brisbane, Australia and mother of Miss Sharon Anne Smith.
