Grant Arthur Farrer

Early Life: Grant was born June 15, 1925, in Provo, Utah, to George Merton and Mary Agnes Smith Farrer. He learned the value of hard work as a young man working the ten-acre family farm. He graduated from Provo High School in 1943.
Life's Work | Service | Interests: Grant spent the majority of his life in Provo and loved Utah County's beautiful mountains that were the perfect backdrop for a Sunday drive. His work ethic served him well throughout his life and 40-year career in the steel industry. He was a people person and loved to make new friends wherever he went. He joined the Merchant Marines where he spent three years in the South Pacific and many other countries. Grant met the love of his life, LaWanda Ferguson, while on leave from the Merchant Marines, at Allen's Market in Provo. They dated for two years and were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple in 1946. Family was particularly important to Grant and he and Wanda raised five children in their Provo homes. He worked tirelessly to ensure his kids would learn to get along with each other. Grant and Wanda enjoyed a happy marriage for 68 years and saw many interesting parts of the world. Favorite destinations included Hawaii, the Middle East and Europe. But his favorite destination was home, where he could reunite with his children and grandchildren and tell them he loved 'em. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Grant served in many positions including: bishopric counselor, stake and full-time missionary, temple ordinance worker and elders quorum presidency. He and Wanda served a mission in St. George, Utah, at the Jacob Hamblin home, the Brigham Young home, Pine Valley Chapel and the St. George Temple Visitors Center. They enjoyed St. George so much, they moved to Dixie and spent the next 13 years in Southern Utah where they made new friends and had new adventures. Grant Arthur Farrer, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away in January 2014.
Family Message: If you asked Grant how he was doing, you always heard the same response, "I'm terrific." We're all terrific for having known you, Grant. We'll meet again.
