James W. Means, 82, a retired grain dealer, died this morning at his home, 26 West Fourth Avenue, San Mateo.
Means, who had lived here for 47 years, was a native of Lawrence, Kansas.
He was a life member of the Merchants' Exchange Club in San Francisco and a member of the Loyal Legion, Mayflower Descendants of California.
He is survived by a brother, Judge Hugh Means of Lawrence; a granddaughter, Mrs. Bruce T. Mitchell of Hillsborough, and a great-grandson, Mark Means, Mitchell, also of Hillsborough.
Private funeral services will be held at Crosby-N. Gray chapel Wednesday morning, with inurnment at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park.
