Evelyn M. Hillbun, Dec 17, 1922-Dec. 01, 2010, resident of San Carlos, passed away on Wed. December 01, 2010 at Kaiser Hospital in Vallejo of Congestive Heart Failure. She was just 16 days shy of her 88th Birthday. She lived in her "Dream House" independent and still able to drive until last March, when she moved in to assisted living in Vallejo CA near her daughter Lorie in Benicia. Evelyn M. Wetle was born in St. Cloud, MN. She was the oldest of 4 children: twins Jerome Wetle and Ester Faust, and youngest daughter Marion Dhein. All have preceded her in death. After attending Cathedral High School, she went on to Business College in St. Paul. She had many girlfriends in St. Paul and one, Hazel accompanied her on a trip to San Francisco when she was about 22. There she met James Ralph Hillbun Jr.(working at radio station KYA) and they married Oct 5, 1946. They moved to San Carlos in 1959 and raised 3 children, Timothy James, Loralee Jane (Campbell) and Nancy Jean. She was preceded in death by both her husband and son, Timothy. Evelyn worked for Pacific Telephone for 22 years (1963-1985) in various clerical support positions including the Plant Service Center in Redwood City. She had fun times participating with a Pac Bell bowling league. She especially liked and looked forward to the reunions held yearly in San Mateo. She absolutely adored travel and took trips all over the world, including road trips to St. Cloud with her family. She was overjoyed with the arrival of her grand children: Veronica Anania, and Chris and Kelly Hillbun. She enjoyed entertaining especially during the Christmas holidays. "The more the merrier" she would say. She was extremely independent, brave and honest with a sarcastic, dry sense of humor... that will be missed. Plans for a memorial "Celebrating her Life" are pending. Email Loriejc1@aol for details.
