A native of Madison, Wisconsin, he was a son of the late Oscar and Pearl Iams Burkett. Mr. Burkett was retired from the US Air Force and was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mazie Spiller Burkett; a daughter, Bonnie Burkett Wasserboehr and her husband, David F. Wasserboehr of Greensboro; one granddaughter, Sara Ellen Wasserboehr and one sister, Charlotte Burkett Odegard of Encinitas, California; one niece and three nephews.
