Major League Baseball Player. For seven seasons (1947 to 1953), he played at the outfielder position with the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Athletics and Chicago White Sox. Born Alfred Aloysius Clark, he attended St. Mary's High School (New Jersey), prior to signing as an amateur free agent with the Yankees in 1941. Following service with the US Military during World War II and several years in the Minor Leagues, he marked his Major League debut on August 5th, 1947. He contributed 14 RBIs and a .373 batting average in 24 games with the Yankees' squad which clinched the World Series and during the 1947 Fall Classic, he recorded 1 hit and 1 RBI. He was acquired by the Indians during that off-season and experienced a second consecutive world championship, as he made the most of his playing time producing 9 home runs and 38 RBIs with a .310 batting average in 81 games while a member of Cleveland's team which captured the World Series title (to date their last world championship). He appeared in 1 game during the 1948 World Series. In 358 regular season games, he compiled 267 hits with a .262 lifetime batting average. During baseball's off-season, Clark was an iron worker.
