Early Professional Baseball Player. Shortstop in first major league, National Assocciation, debuting May 4, 1871 with Cleveland Forest Citys where he played 22 games and batted .303 and led the team in triples and tied for most home runs; next year at age 22 hit a double for the Brooklyn Atlantics in seven at bats; with the Hartford Dark Blues he batted .250 in his final season, 1877. In 1888 living in Brooklyn he came down with tuberculosis; moved to Denver for the clean air to recover and died eight weeks later.
