Lester B. "Les" Gemmill Grand Ledge Lester B. "Les" Gemmill, age 94, passed away April 4, 2012 in Grand Ledge, MI. He was born October 20, 1917 in Big Bend, California. He served in both U.S. Navy and Army during WWII, had a career as a teacher of several subjects in public schools, and was employed by the State of Michigan Dept. of Education as Director of Indian Education. He is preceded in death by wife Dorothy; sisters, Carol Hayward-Timmons, Ina Curtis, Idela Curtis; brothers, Melvin and Ira Gemmill; and survived by son, Ross Gemmill; daughters, Rosemary Suardini and Renee (Aita) Thakali; grandchildren, Dominic Suardini, Andrea (Matthew) Polhemus, Carly and Alison Gemmill, Keshari and Jasmina Thakali; great grandchildren, Ethan and Juliana Polhemus; brother, Walter Potts; special friend Michael Hansen. A funeral service will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Visitation Friday 6-8 p.m. Special thanks to Independence Village of Grand Ledge, Senior Home Care Solutions and Hospice Advantage.
