Mitchell Dean Votaw, age 42, of Newcastle, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2012, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on May 30, 1969, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the son of Arles Dean Votaw and Sharon Kay Culbertson. Mitch grew up and spent his younger years living in Tuttle, Oklahoma. During his high school years, he lived in Southwest Oklahoma City, where he attended Western Heights High School, graduating in 1987.

On January 25, 1988, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. A year and six months later on June 21, 1990, Mitch married Karie Jane Murfin of Newcastle. That same year on November of 1990, Mitch was deployed on active duty to Desert Storm with the Fox Battery 2nd Battalion 14th Marine Division. He proudly served his country with his Marine brothers in Iraq for seven months. After returning home as a combat veteran, Mitch remained in the Marine Reserves until 1995.

Mitch and Karie moved to Newcastle in 1994, and together raised his precious daughters, Lauren (Belle) and Madison (Madigirl).

Mitch worked many years as a computer engineer at Advanced Financial Solutions in Oklahoma City, and later worked for other companies and received numerous awards for excellence. He was currently working for T.D. Williamson, Inc., in Tulsa. Mitch loved spending time in the outdoors and going to the lake with his family. He especially enjoyed boating, tubing, shooting, and fishing with his girls. He enjoyed hunting with his brother and father. Mitch loved to watch OU football with family and friends. Mitch had a deep connection with God and relied on His guidance. He had an infectious smile and laugh. He would always spend time helping friends. He will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife, Karie Votaw, of the home in Newcastle; daughters, Lauren and Madison, of the home; father and stepmother, Arles "Buddy" and Edie Votaw of Yukon, Oklahoma; mother, Sharon Wright of OK; two brothers, Michael Votaw and wife Samona of Edmond, Oklahoma, Brian Votaw and wife Sara of Bethany, Oklahoma; sister, Julie Votaw-Tarp of Edmond; stepbrother, Zac Vetoyans of Oklahoma City; stepsister, Lara Vetoyans of St. Louis, Missouri; three nieces, Katie, Morgen, and Savannah; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at the First Baptist Church in Newcastle. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ft. Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Oklahoma.
