German Nobility. First wife of Friedrich Wilhelm, later King Friedrich Wilhelm II. of Prussia. Not to be confused with her aunt of the same name, that married King Friedrich II the Great. Friedrich the Great married her to his chosen successor Friedrich Wilhelm, a womanizer, in hope to bring some calmness into his life. While her husband had fun with his mistress and other women she took the same rights for herself. The King tried to safe the marriage several times without success. The pair was divorced in 1769 and she was imprisoned in the castle of Stettin. After the King's death, she gained some freedom. Her only child with Friedrich Wilhelm was Friederike. She married Frederick Augustus the son of King George III. of Great Britain.
