OKLAHOMA CITY: Betty Shawver, 83, loving friend, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother, sister, and wife, was born in Catoosa, Oklahoma, to Offord and Myrtle (Sullivan) Veal.

She was quite the athlete, having been a member of the Girls Basketball State Championship team of Catoosa High School and an avid golfer who shot a hole-in-one. Betty started her career at Jenkins Music Company in Tulsa, where she met the love of her life and soon after married Robert Lee Shawver. They settled in Oklahoma City and shared 63 years together before she went to be with the Lord.

Betty enjoyed a faith-filled life, traveling, cooking and was an avid reader. She was a Sunday school teacher for 3 year olds for 15 years at Southwood Baptist Church, which gave her great joy. Betty retired as an orthodontic assistant and receptionist to Dr. Herbert Krob and Dr. Ray Krob.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill. She is survived by her loving husband, Robert; daughters, Saundra Simms and Susan Sturdivant Hunter, both of Oklahoma City; a sister, Pat Smith of Mannford, Oklahoma; and grandchildren: Shannon and husband Jason Genzer of Moore, OK and their children, Zachary and Macy; Brandon and wife Amy Simms of East Greenville, PA and their children, Dylan, Lincoln and Maguire; Marshall and wife Angie Sturdivant of Oklahoma City and their children, Luke, Caleb, and Jacob; and Christopher Joel (CJ) and wife Amanda Hunter and their children, Chastyn and Trinity.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012, and from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Resthaven Funeral Home.
