John Sampson Lewis was the son of Richard T. Lewis & his first wife Caroline Sampson both of Staten Island.

John's headstone lists the year 1875 for his birth but John is on the 1875 NY State census & recorded as 4 yrs old. Headstones aren't always right especially those where the dates are from a period prior to when people needed to keep good track of vital dates.

John married Bertha Skerritt, daughter of Francis Henry Skerritt & Hannah Storer.
