Cleo Ruthard Woodrow Stamper said he was born November 4, 1752, while Sadie Stamper Greer carries him born November 4, 1756. According to Sadie Stamper Greer, James W. married about1773, Middlesex County, Virginia, to Sarah Moore.

India Earp lists James married in Wilkes County, N.C. James was a farmer, trapper, hunter and trader. James died March30,1826, Morgan County, Kentucky according to a Pollitt/Stamper Family Sheet, while James Stamper carries his death as February 12, 1826, in Kentucky.

Oliver Stamper lists james' death on March 12, Grassey Creek, Kentucky. He is buried Stamper Cemetery, Grassy Creek, Morgan County, Kentucky.

Cleo Ruthard Woodrow Stamper records gives James origin as Scotch-Irish of England or Scotland. Reportedly, James W. and Sarah lived in the upper reaches of Yadkin River Valley on Grassy Creek, Ashe County, N.C. near the Virginia border. Between 1796 and 1825, James Stamper and Sarah migrated from North Carolina to Kentucky, and lived at one time in Clay, Letcher and Morgan Counties of Kentucky... After the birth of 12 children, they moved to Morgan County, Kentucky, their last residence.

Cleo Ruthard Woodrow Stamper records lists two sons born to this union, William Thomas Moore Stamper and James Stamper, William Thomas married Emily Polly and had 12 children. James was born November 5,1799, and died May 1874. Cleo said James later called himself John and married Sarah (maiden name unknown), January 5, 1799, and died November 30, 1876.
Their children were, William Thomas Moore, James W., George W., Taylor Seymore, Cynthia & Irene Sources: Cleo Ruthard Woodrow Stamper.

Remark: It is possible that Cleo Stamper has this James W. Stamper, son of Jonathan Sr. and Rachel Parks Stamper confused with the James W. Stamper, son of Richard and Martha Patsy Carter Stamper. There are other James W. Stamper's in this Sarah Sallie Stamper line which need to be
checked.
