Mrs. Trotter was born in Springfield, Ill., Oct. 30, 1842, where as a child she knew Abraham Lincoln and was a playmate and neighbor of Anna Herndon, whose father was Lincoln's law partner in Springfield.

She was married to William Trotter at the close of the Civil war in 1865, moving into northern Illinois when the country was still new. She was the mother of eight children, four of whom survive. The two sons, clergymen, besides the son here, are Rev. George W. of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Rev. Will C. Trotter of Portland, Ore. One daughter, Mrs. Verne Gaarde of Riverside, also survives, as does a sister, Miss Julia Lorch of Springfield, 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
