POQUOSON - Mary Alice Sheffield, 86, a native of Irving County, Ga., and a resident of Poquoson for more than 65 years was called home by her Lord Wednesday, June 8, 2011.

Mrs. Sheffield was a business owner of "Sheffield's" convenient store in Poquoson and retired after 20 years. She was an active member of Messick Baptist Church where she served in the church choir, W.M.U., Messick Baptist Guild, and Clown Ministries. She also was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Poquoson Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad. Mrs. Sheffield was a woman after God's own heart and showed that by loving her family, serving in her church, and giving to her community.

Mrs. Sheffield was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years and 10 months, L. A. Sheffield; a daughter, Brenda S. Mross.

She is survived by her three loving daughters, Elaine S. Holloway and husband, Robert D., Glenda S. Horrell and husband, Joseph, and Beverly S. Ward and husband, Vernon; grandchildren, Barry D. Holloway, Tammy H. Axsom, Tracy L. Bain, Allen D. Perez, Norman A. Ward, David A. Ward, Angela D. Self; step grandchildren, James K. Horrell, Joe H. Horrell Jr., and Vernon L. Ward; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
